What a whirlwind! Clinton Global Initiative (#cgi2010) should be on the bucket list of every change agent, social innovator and do gooder. Three fast-paced and jam-packed days of scheduling resulted in more than 300 new commitments being made by multi-national corporations, social entrepreneurs and governments towards global issues already on our radar while also raising the profile of new issues not usually on the tip of everyone’s tongue.
For the issues we know, malaria, economic development, job creation, it was empowering to see progress reports as they related to the Millennium Development Goals and current goals set for 2015. Other issues brought to the table certainly weren’t new, but the heightened commitment to problems like clean cook stoves, protecting the world’s forrests, cancer in the developing world, child sex trafficking and professional opportunities for veterans sparked intense conversation and debate.
