This is not one of those posts that requires you to think a lot or evaluate methods or click through to a lot of really useful links. It’s just a post about small company out there doing a good thing that you should know about.
Socks for Happy People is a sock company. They make socks. Nothing else, just socks. Now, I grant you, they are fun, unusual, and well, very happy socks, but, at the end of the day, they’re just socks. One could argue that if they were “just socks” they wouldn’t cost $22 a pair. After all, for that kinda cash you could pick up a couple of 10 packs of tube socks at Wally World. But these socks are made of organic cotton, and the yarn spinning and dyeing are monitored to conform to what they describe on their website as “all the professional and fair trade practices you would expect.” So that’s a good thing,
But the truly good thing is that they’re giving socks to children who really, really need socks. Socks for Happy People is working with the Buy One Get One folks in support of the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation in Mongolia. With average January temperatures there dropping to 22 below zero, you can imagine the difference a warm pair of socks can make – especially to a child living on the streets. Frostbite is common along with the resulting lost toes. So right now, when you buy a pair of Socks for Happy People, they will give a brand new pair of (locally made) super-warm Bactrian camel hair socks to the CNCF in preparation for the coming cold.
Like I said, this isn’t a very complicated post. Buy some socks, give some socks. Wiggle your toes knowing you’re helping to keep a child’s feet warm. Look at that. Socks really can make you happy.
