Attend Your Next Corporate Social Responsibility Conference Virtually

I like to stay on top of the conference scene and having worked at BlogWorld & New Media Expo and also as a convention blogger I love to hear about new conferences involving new technology or those using social media.  The latest in the world of conferences and conventions is to use the Internet to attend conventions, trade shows and events in the virtual world.  PR Newswire is allowing you to attend your next corporate social responsibility conference from the privacy of your own laptop!  They are introducing the Engage CSR 2010 Conference.

The PR Newswire conference is set to take place on Wednesday June 30, 2010.  You can go and register for the event and never have to leave the privacy of your own laptop, office, or for that matter even leave your home.

They explain in more detail what the event will entail on their site:

About the Event
In today’s interconnected communications landscape where customers, consumers, investors and stakeholders can now interact directly with organizations, the underlying opportunities for engagement have never been greater. Simultaneously, the growth of corporate social responsibility has created a demand for timely information related to CSR initiatives.

Public and private companies, as well as nonprofit organizations, are increasingly leveraging social media to generate awareness for their social responsibility efforts.
How are leading brands and organizations showcasing their CSR activities in the social landscape? What are the best practices for success?

We’ll explore these topics and more at PR Newswire’s first Virtual Conference and Expo. Attend webinars, network with conference attendees, and visit various sponsor booths right from your desktop. And best of all it’s FREE!

I plan on registering and attending the event so perhaps I will see you there and we can “network”.  I am always a little confused at how the face-to-face experience can be duplicated in a virtual world environment but with places like Second Life and other virtual worlds, this is becoming more of a possibility.  I attended my first virtual conference in Second Life and watched as Elizabeth Edwards gave a presentation from the stage.  I will be here at PR Newswire’s conference to see how they handle the online experience as well.  They provide a video of what we can expect, and it is similar to what I have seen in the past.  Here is a list of some of the speakers that will be presenting at the event:

Deb Berman, Managing Director, Justmeans
Ronna Charles Branch, Global Reputation Management, Public Relations, UPS
Dan Bross, Senior Director of Corporate Citizenship, Microsoft
Elaine Cohen, Co-Founder & Managing Partner, Beyond Business
Suzanne Fallender, Director, CSR Strategy & Communication, Intel

The online world has not yet replaced the feeling you get when attending the real deal, but as technology continues to increase its foothold in the business, we will see more of these events taking place right on your laptop.
