- Teach children to be responsible caretakers of the planet.
- Heighten community awareness of and participation in environmentally responsible behavior.
- Create national interest in establishing standards and procedures for environmentally responsible practices.
In 2002, Jill wrote the Go Green Initiative, which is now the largest and fastest growing comprehensive environmental education program in the world, operating in all 50 U.S. states, 13 countries, and on 4 continents. The program has been endorsed by the National School Boards Association (NSBA), National Recycling Coalition, 8 State PTA’s, California Integrated Waste Management Board, California Resource Recovery Association, and many more.
Jill also owns Buck Consulting, which helps businesses “go green”, and achieve profitability through sustainability. She teaches business leaders how to drive revenue up and costs down through environmentally responsible business practices, and how to engage in “green marketing” to increase market share.
While her organization is based in The Bay area, I caught up with her in Shanghai just moments before she headed back to the States. Jill has been working with schools in China since 2007. In the video below she speaks about how China’s pollution effects the US, and the influence of the one child policy, and visiting the greenest school in China (if you listen closely, she actually says America, but we’ll write that off as a pre-coffee slip of the tongue given she was referencing the YK Pao elementary school).
Jill also instituted one of my all time favorite techniques for maintaining contact with people that want to learn more about greening their lifestyle. After becoming overwhelmed by questions via email, and realizing that many of the questions were the same, she decided to install the minivan webcam. Now she answers questions while driving to pick up the kids (kinda fabulous).
