How To Increase Your WordPress.com Blog Traffic Using Facebook

One of the most basic principals to blogging is increasing your blog traffic.  As a novice blogger, I was obsessed with my stats.  I constantly viewed my daily stats and wondered why there was a certain fluctuation.  I know now that my obsessive behavior was merely making me crazy and that there are better ways to increase your traffic than to beg for readers to come and read your latest post.  One of the tricks that I learned early in my career as a blogger was to leverage other areas of the Internet to garner more readers.  I posted before about how to gain more readers by leaving comments on others blogs and joining and participating in communities.  Now, here’s a more technical way to increase your traffic using a social network.

Facebook has more than 400 million users.  All of those users represent a potential reader of your blog.  If you have a WordPress.com blog, you can make it simple for your blog posts to show up and be publicized on your Facebook page by following these simple steps.

  1. Go to your blog’s Dashboard and underneath the sidebar is a section called “My Blogs”.  Open that section.
  2. There you will find a column called “Publicize”.  That column has a check box next to Facebook.  Check the box.
  3. Authorize the connection from your WordPress.com blog to your Facebook account.  Continue to authorize the process.

Once you have gone through this process, your blog posts will be entered into your Facebook account page and all of the publicized areas where you provide information.  This is a great way to get more people to notice a blog post.

I should note that this is for WordPress.com users only and that if you are using WordPress.org, you have many other options available to you in the form of plugins and other bells and whistles.  This is for the basic user and it can get into more technical issues when dealing with other applications.  If you are using Blogger or another type of software, consult those software applications.

Everyone loves to get more people reading their blogs and a few of these little things can get it noticed.  Who knows?  You could be the next A-list blogger that everyone must read!
