Do-Gooder DJs Run for Charity: Water

Who says DJs don’t do good deeds?  On April 13, Los Angeles-based DJ Aristocat and DJ Sleeper set out to run the rugged desert roads all the way to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival to raise $50,000 for charity: water.  Inspired by Christopher McDougall’s book “Born to Run,” which states that every human being has the capacity for long-distance running, the performers decided to do the 100 Mile DJ Run in support of charity: water after watching a video about the organization’s efforts to solve the world’s water crisis.

We spoke with the artists-turned-athletes on their second day at Coachella, where they hit the festival grounds spinning as soon as they arrived after three days of enduring one of their greatest physical and mental challenges.

“We’re tired and we’re in pain,” shared Aristocat.  ”But we wanted to show people that anything’s possible.  We both play sports, but we’re not athletes by any means, and we’ve had minimal training.”

Through the support of family and friends, Aristocat and Sleeper are currently at $11,000 in the donation stage.  Sleeper says that charity: water, which puts 100 percent of all donations into clean water projects, exemplifies “how giving and charity should be done.”

“The fact that you can see where all of the money you raise is going, and you can actually locate the place your well is being built through Google Maps is really powerful,” said Sleeper.

The dynamic duo, who plan to raise money for charity annually, have 70 more days to reach their $50,000 goal for charity: water.  To learn about how you can help them get there, check out their charity: water page .
