As for helping to fight homelessness, we've featured the work that Mark Horvath (@hardlynormal on twitter) and others are doing in that struggle - right here in the US. HTF works with Fonkoze, Haiti's largest micro-finance insitution, to lift women and children out of extreme poverty. Many of our "family" there are still unaccounted for, and the St. Joseph Home for Boys was completely destroyed.
