That’s what happens when you’re surrounded by hundreds of energetic, determined people who are impatient to create and change so many things; refusing to settle for less than real improvements and advancements. It’s almost as if you can feel the tweets and texts and e-mails whirring past your head as you walk through the exhibit hall. The air itself seems alive with purpose and possibilities. At no time was that more evident than during the 24-hour campaign for #beatcancer. A challenge was issued and within 24 hours over 200,000 people responded, setting a world record in the use of social medi
a and raising over $70,000 for several cancer-related charities.
At the end of the day, it was an old-fashioned convention. There were buyers and sellers, teachers and students, leaders, upstarts, and assorted interested bystanders. There were the usual tchotchkes being given away and the traditional panel discussions, keynote addre
sses and, of course, cocktail parties (tweetups to you purists). But rather than just a few business deals being settled or orders being written up, this was a gathering where things. got. done. And thanks to the multitude of connections – on line and off – things will continue to get done.
